Putting to rest fears of oil spillage from the cargo ship MT Pavit, which grounded off Juhu beach on Sunday, Director General of Shipping Satish Agnihotri on Tuesday said that no oil pollution has been noted in proximity of the vessel. Mr. Agnihotri also said that there is no fear of oil spillage in future as Indian Coast Guard is monitoring the vessel. He gave the information while addressing a press conference in Mumbai today evening.Refuting rumours, the Director General also said that the ship is not tilted. According to Maharashtra Maritime Board, the vessel was observed to be parallel to the beach and in partially afloat condition. Mr. Agnihotri informed the media that owners of the ship have been contacted and they would have to pay Rs four crore as fine. He also said that the Directorate General of Shipping has directed the owners of the ship to confirm their action plan to salvage the vessel immediately.
