Election commission has said there is no merit in claims that Electronic voting machine (EVMs) can be tampered and the allegations are wild and baseless. The commission said, some political parties have raised voice against the credibility of the EVMs, alleging tampering of EVMs during the recent elections in five states. <br/><br/>In an official release, the commission has assured the citizens that EVMs are temper proof and fully satisfied with the integrity of electoral process using EVM. It said, the programme (software) used in these machines is burnt into a one time programmable (OTP) and masked chip so that it cannot be altered or tampered with. The commission said, these machines are not networked either by wire or by wireless to any other machine or system, therefore, there is no possibility of its data corruption. <br/><br/>The commission said, alleged temperability of EVM have been raised earlier also since their introduction before High Court and Supreme court. These allegations have been dismissed. It said, all the High Courts after going into all aspects of the technological soundness and the administrative measures involved in the use of EVMs at elections, have held that the EVMs are credible, reliable and totally tamperproof.
