Congress rejected reports that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banjerjee's demand for financial package for the state is linked with her support to the Presidential candidate of the party.

The party spokesperson Manish Tewari told reporters in New Delhi that Finance Commission had asked the government two years back to look into the financial condition of three states of West Bengal, Kerala and Punjab.

In a related event, West Bengal Finance Minister Amit Mitra on Monday had a two-hour meeting with Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee to seek waiver of 23,000 crore rupees interest on Central loans .
