No let-up in biting cold in J&K

There is no let-up in biting cold in Jammu and Kashmir as the mercury dipped to minus 11 degrees Celsius in Ladakh region today. The day temperatures registered a considerable drop in rest of the state. The Gulmarg hill resort in north Kashmir shivered at minus 5.6 degree Celsius, while Pahalgam resort in south Kashmir recorded a low of 1.0 degree. The day temperature in Jammu dipped by seven degrees today.<br/><br/>Fresh snowfall in higher reaches today intensified the cold wave in Himachal Pradesh. Lahaul-Spiti valley shivered under freezing temperature. Chamba, Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti experienced moderate snowfall as Rohtang pass remained shut owing to inclement weather.<br/><br/>District headquarters of Lahaul-Spiti – Keylong – recorded a low of minus 4.6 degree celsius, the lowest in the hill state. Icy winds blew across the state as the day temperature in scenic Shimla dipped to 13.8 degrees against yesterday's 14.6 deg. <br/><br/>Amritsar was coldest in the northern plains today, registering a low of 6.6 degree Celsius.<br/>
