No legal provision to halt auction of Tagore’s paintings: Govt

India has no legal provision to prevent the sort of auction in which rare paintings by Indian Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore were sold in London two months ago. In a written reply, Minister of State for Planning V Narayanasamy said in the Lok Sabha that there is no legal provision to stop such auctions. He was answering Indian National Congress member from Uttar Pradesh P L Punia who wanted to know whether the government had at all tried to stop the auction of 12 of Tagore's rare paintings in London.
