The Calcutta High Court on Wednesday did not pass any interim order on the Tata Motor’s petition challenging the Singur Land Rehabilitation and Development Act 2011. Justice Saumitra Pal adjourned the hearing on the petition moved by the Tata Motors challenging the legality of the Singur land return act. The matter will be taken up for hearing again on Thursday. The Tata Motors in its petition said that the act and all its consequences be declared unconstitutional and illegal and pleaded for a stay on the notification asking the company to vacate the land at Singur at the earliest. The West Bengal Assembly had passed the Singur Land Rehabilitation and Development bill on the 14th of this month in which the Governor Mr. M.K. Narayanan gave his assent on last Monday.AIR correspondent reports that the act scrapped the previous Left Front Government’s deal with Tata Motors which will pave the way for returning land to the unwilling farmers in Singur. The act was notified on Tuesday evening.
