Amid conflicting reports on pulling out its troops from Afghanistan, the US on Saturday made it clear that it has no intention of leaving the war-torn country in the near future and certainly not in 2011. Talking to reporters in Washington, US National Security Advisor, Retired General James Jones said, President Obama's statement on withdrwal of US troops from Afghanistan from July 2011 has created confusion in the region. He said, America is very confident that by the application of over one lakh US troops and a significant increase in the NATO and non-NATO contributing countries, stability will be achieved in Afghanistan. <br/>He said that the rate at which the troops would return would be conditioned on the situation on the ground. General Jones clarified that the transition will begin only when the Afghans will be able to begin to take control of more of their own affairs, especially in the security aspect. He also expressed hope to dislodge, dismantle and destroy the safe havens of terrorists in closer partnership with the army of Pakistan.
