Government today said that no Indian was on board the ill-fated Malaysian plane which crashed yesterday in Ukraine.

Ministry of Civil Aviation today clarified that there was no Air India flight near the Malaysian plane when it crashed.

Meanwhile, Air India and Jet Airways flights have been diverted from Ukraine's conflict zone.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep grief over the loss of lives in the Malaysian plane crash. In a tweet, he said, in this hour of grief, India stands with the families of those who lost their lives on board Flight MH17.

The Rajya Sabha has conveyed its sympathies and condolences to the families of the 298 passengers and crew killed in the Malaysian Airlines Crash in Ukraine yesterday.

Making a reference soon after the House met for the day, Deputy Chairman Prof. P.J. Kurien said the death of so many passengers and crew was tragic and sad.

The members observed silence for some time in a mark of respect to the memory of those who lost their lives in the tragedy.
