No increase in cotton seed prices over last five yrs: Agri Min

The government today denied that prices of various cotton seeds in the country have been increasing in the last five years.

Replying to a question in the Rajya Sabha, Agriculture Minister Sarad Pawar said Bt cotton is grown in more than 90 per cent cotton area in the country.

He said the cultivation of Bt cotton increased from 93.36 lakh hectare in 2010-11 to 111.39 lakh hectare in 2011-12.

The Agriculture Minister said that about 46 companies were involved in producing Bt cotton seed last year.
