No govt decision yet on doing away with LPG subsidies for rich

The government has not taken any decision on the recommendations of a Parliamentary panel which has suggested to do away with providing subsided LPG cylinders to rich and affluent section of population.

In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today, the Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas R.P.N. Singh said the Standing Committee on Petroleum and Natural Gas had recommended that the government may consider to do away with providing subsidized domestic LPG cylinders to those people having an income of more than six lakh rupee per annum.

It has also suggested not to supply subsidized cylinders to those persons who are holding constitutional posts and public representatives like MPs, MLAs and MLCs.
