No going back on call drop penalty: Ravi Shankar Prasad

Union Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Mr. Ravi Shankar Prasad today reiterated that penalty for call drops announced by TRAI will be implemented as per schedule.

Speaking to reporters in Mumbai, Mr. Prasad said there is no question of going back on the proposal as customer interest is of more importance to the government.

The minister said telecom operators may have a point when they blame call drops to spectrum unavailability but still ruled that customer is the king. It may be recalled that the telecom regulator has announced a penalty of one rupee for every call drop from 1st January. Following this announcement, operators have said they will adopt some legal recourse if the government goes ahead with this plan.
