No further division of Assam: Gogoi

The Assam Chief Minister Mr. Tarun Gogoi has rejected the demand for further division of the State. He said there has been demand for creation of a Kamatapur State by the Koch-Rajbongshis and separate Bodoland State by the ruling coalition partner Bodoland Peoples Front (BPF) and the banned organization NDFB. Similar demand has also been raised by Karbis and Dimasas living in the two hill districts of the State. Mr. Gogoi was making his stand clear in the State Legislative Assembly on the concluding day of the winter session at Dispur on Friday when some ruling coalition partner BPF members raised the issue of creation of a Separate ‘ Bodoland State ‘ in the House. While rejecting the demand, Mr. Gogoi said his government has rather given top-most priority to settle the problems of the people living in those areas besides taking up development activities in a massive scale. The Chief Minister’s stand was appreciated by the ruling as well as major opposition party members in the Assembly, including the Asom Gana Parishad, BJP and the Asom United Democratic Front (AUDF) and greeted with thumps.
