No formal peace process with Taliban: Karzai

The Afghan President Hamid Karzai has said there are no formal peace talks between his government and the Taliban. He, however, admitted that individual contacts with the hardline Islamic group are on. In an interview to a TV channel, the Afghan leader added that there is a clear course towards possible future peace talks with Taliban. He said the roadmap is clear and Afghanistan will be ready to talk to only those Taliban leaders who belong to Afghanistan and are not part of Al-Qaeda network. Karzai also stressed the need to eliminate private security contractors in Afghanistan, a day after ordering them to begin disbanding immediately. He charged that the contractors are working with criminal elements in Afghanistan and funding insurgents with US money.
