No flip-flop on part of Centre on Telangana issue: Home Minister

Dismissing the charge of flip-flop on the part of Centre on Telangana issue, Home Minister Mr. P. Chidambaram on Thursday said the meeting of political parties from Andhra Pradesh to be held on Tuesday is to devise a mechanism and roadmap on resolving the problem. Mr Chidambaram hoped if all political parties show good will and accommodation, a solution can be found to the issue. He was speaking at a press conference in New Delhi on the monthly report card of his ministry.

Mr. Chidambaram said that the Centre will revisit the issue of ban on prepaid mobile connection in Jammu and Kashmir if the service providers are able to come out with a fool-proof plan of hundred per cent verification. He however said the report in a section of the media on the lifting of the ban on the prepaid connection in the state is incorrect.

Mr. Chidambaram also said that visa rules regarding the 60- day cooling of the foreign nationals visiting India had been relaxed slightly for the tourists who use India as a base to go to neighbouring countries. They can avail of three entries within 60 days, if there is sufficient information on the itinerary. He said that the overwhelming majority of tourists who visit India for a few weeks will face no difficulty whatsoever on the break of 60 days before applying for another tourist visa.

He said the ex-servicemen will be re-employed on contractual basis in the categories of constable and sub-inspectors in BSF, CISF and SSB. The CRPF have already permitted to re-employ ex-servicemen.

On his proposal for the bifurcation of the Home Ministry, Mr. Chidambaram said that he has met Prime Minister on the issue and there will be more discussion on it.
