The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has ruled out early general elections. Responding to queries by newspersons on the sidelines of the swearing in ceremony of Chief Justice of India at Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi on the reservation of some of the UPA allies regarding the recent decisions of the government on FDI in Retail and hike in Diesel price he said, it is a matter that can be discussed and elections are far away.
The Prime Minister defended the economic reforms process and said it will continue and said reforms are not once-for-all process and government will do everything possible in the interest of the nation. Dr. Manmohan Singh dismissed any rollback of decisions.
On Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi's allegation that the FDI in Retail was aimed at pleasing the United States, the Prime Minister said India is not a country to be dictated by others. What has the US got to do with this, he asked.
The Prime Minister welcomed the recent Supreme Court opinion on Presidential Reference, which clarified that auctions are not the only way to allocate natural resources.
On Trinamool Congress withdrawing from the UPA, Dr. Singh said he is not bitter about anything.
