No deviation from rules in awarding telecom licences: Raja

The Communication and Information Technology Minister, Mr. A.Raja has reiterated that there was no deviation from the Telecom Policy of 1999 for the allotment of Spectrum 2G. He was talking to media after the inauguration the conference of ICT Ministers for speeding up Delivery of e-Services in New Delhi on Tuesday. Mr. Raja said the policy was adopted by the then BJP led government and my all predessors followed this policy which was first come and first serve. While inaugurating the conference he said the IT sector of our country today serves as a beacon to rest of the world and has registered unprecedented growth. The Revenue of the Indian IT industry has increased 10 times in less than 10 years. It currently employs over 8 million people directly and indirectly. The Minister said that a large cross section of society even today remains untouched by this growth. Under National e-Governance Plan the government has planned to set up one lakh common service centres in 6 lakh villages. So far 55 thousand have been set up under public private partnership.
