Government has said that no decision has been taken on amendments to RTI Act. Releasing the Logo on RTI and RTI portal in New Delhi, Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Prithviraj Chavan said that whenever any decision in this regard is taken, it would be to strengthen the law and not to weaken it. He said the government was considering doing away with the blanket exemption provided to security organisations. Elaborating the proposal, he said the government intents to amend the law to enable applicants to seek information on tenders and other non-sensitive information such as promotions. Mr. Chavan said that Administrative Reforms Commission recommendation to bar vexatious complaints has not been accepted by the government. The Minister said the department of personnel was also setting up a watch dog mechanism, to enable people to point out if the central government website did not implement the requirement of disclosures under the law.
