The government today said that no decision has been taken as yet to decontrol the prices of urea. The Chemical and Fertilizer Minister Mr. Srikant Jena told Lok Sabha that the decision on the issue will be taken on the recommendations of the Group of Ministers. He said that there is no problem regarding the availability of fertilizers and the states have been provided adequate quantities. Mr. Jena said that the fertilizers are being provided to over two lakh twenty thousand retail outlets. He however said that the onus of monitoring to ensure that the fertilizers reach the farmers on time lies with the states. He also informed the House that nearly 80 thousand crore rupees are being spent on fertilizers subsidy.
