No Consensus in Cauvery River Authority meeting

Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh today chaired the meeting of the Cauvery River Authority, CRA, at his residence in New Delhi to discuss the demand made by Tamil Nadu for releasing more water of the river by Karnataka. The meeting was attended by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa, Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, Puducherry Chief Minister N. Rangasamy and Kerala Water Resources Minister P.J.Joseph.

AIR correspondent reports, Tamil Nadu had made a plea to the Supreme Court to direct the Centre to convene the CRA meeting. The last meeting of the CRA was held in 2003 when the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) was in power at the Centre.
