Afghanistan’s state intelligence agency has said that Taliban supremo Mullah Omar is missing from his hideout in Pakistan for last few days but it can’t confirm reports that he has been killed. Agency spokesman Lutfullah Mashal told a press conference that Taliban leader was hiding in Quetta city of Pakistan for more than 10 years and their assessment is based upon intelligence inputs and reports from Taliban commanders. He said Omar may have been moved to some other location with the help of some ex-ISI official so as to dodge arrest but it is difficult to confirm at this stage. Earlier, a local TV channel reported that Mullah Omar was shot dead as he was being moved from Quetta to North Waziristan by former ISI chief Gen. Hamid Gul two days ago. But Afghan Taliban rejected the reports terming it as propaganda and claiming that he is in Afghanistan.The spokesman for Afghan intelligence agency said they have shared the location of Mullah Omar with Pakistan’s ISI more than 30 times but it was not acted upon. Omar is considered the spiritual leader of the Taliban movement that operates in parts of Afghanistan. He was Afghanistan's de facto head of state from 1996 to late 2001 and has the title “Head of the Supreme Council.”
