No compromise on dealing with naxal violence, asserts all party meet

All-party meet on naxal violence on Monday asserted that there can be no compromise on dealing with naxal violence.

A resolution adopted at the meeting urged the youth to leave the path of violence and pursue their goals through democratic means.

The resolution strongly denouncing left-wing extremist violence said nothing can be more dangerous than the insurgency to overthrow parliamentary democracy and Constitution of India through violent means.

Briefing reporters after the meeting, Home Minister, Sushilkumar Shinde said Government is considering strong action against left-wing insurgents.

He said that full security will be provided to the Congress leaders during Parivartan Yatra in Chhattisgarh.

In his opening remarks at a meeting in New Delhi, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh called for making concerted efforts to check the violence and ensure that attacks do not recur.

Committing Central support to the affected states to contain naxal violence, Dr. Singh said that Chhattisgarh attack is a frontal assault on the democratic foundations of the country.

He called for close co-operation to ensure more conducive atmosphere for political activity in the region.

He said that the Government has been following a two-pronged strategy to deal with the challenge of Left Wing Extremism.

He added that Centre is pursuing sustained and proactive operations against Maoists and also development and governance issues in naxal affected areas.

Dr. Singh pointed out that if, political activity is restricted because of fear of terror, the strength of democratic forces would suffer.

He said the naxalites have been resorting to inhuman attack on security personnel, political workers and innocent people, but it was for the first time they targeted top leadership of a political party.

The meeting was convened in the backdrop of naxal attack on a Congress rally in Bastar region of Chhattisgarh last month in which 30 people were killed.

The meeting was attended by Congress President, Sonia Gandhi, Union Ministers A.K. Antony, Sushil Kumar Shinde, BJP Leaders Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitely, BSP Chief, Mayawati, Samajwadi Supremo, Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Leaders of NCP, National Conference, BJD and Left parties also attended the meeting.
