In Odisha, Maoists have stopped communicating about the release of BJD MLA Jhina Hikaka and Italian national Paolo Bosusco. As the deadline given to the Odisha Government by the Maoists for the release of two hostages ended yesterday, the ultras have neither extended the deadline nor hinted at their release.Secretary of Odisha State Organising Committee of CPI (Maoists), Sabyasachi Panda, holding the Italian national, has said the Maoists have not received any communication about the joint statement signed by Odisha Government representatives and two-Maoist appointed mediators on the release of prisoners to facilitate freeing of Italian national held in captivity since 14th of last month.In a fresh audio message, he said the Maoists are not clear if the government has decided to release seven prisoners as part of the 13-point charter of demands raised by CPI (Maoists). Panda, however, was non-commital on the deadline for release of Italian Paolo Bosusco.The Andhra-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee of CPI (Maoists), holding the ruling BJD MLA, is yet to react after expiry of the deadline given by it.The Committee has been demanding release of 30 prisoners including dreaded top Maoist Ghasi in lieu of the BJD MLA. As the Odisha Government is yet to meet all the demands of the two Maoist factions, uncertainty looms large over the fate of the two hostages. Repeated appeals by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to the Maoists to free the BJD MLA and Italian national unharmed and on humanitarian ground have not yielded any result. The state administration is anxiously waiting for the next steps of the Maoists after announcing to free 27 prisoners within the legal framework.Meanwhile, heavy police arrangements have been made in Kandhamal and Koraput districts of Odisha for the possible release of the two hostages.
