No change in triple talaq sytem; new guidelines issued: AIMPLB

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has said that Muslims have the constitutional right to follow their personal law. Breafing media after a two-day meeting of the board executive in Lucknow, AIMPLB General Secretary Maulana Wali Rehmani said that the board has decided to issue a code of conduct and those who give "talaq" (divorce) without 'Sharia' (Islamic law) reasons will face social boycott.<br/><br/>He informed that the board will issue appeals to maulanas and imams of mosques to read out the code of conduct during Friday 'namaz' and emphasise on its implementation. The board, which deals with the Muslim personal laws in India, also issued an eight-point code of conduct to prevent misuse of the practice and other Islamic laws. <br/><br/>While claiming that a majority of the Muslims in the country do not want any change in their personal law, Rehmani said, the board has made it clear that it will not tolerate any outside interference in matters of Muslim personal laws. He urged that no roadblocks should be put in the implementation of the muslim personal laws.<br/>The Union government had on October 7 last year opposed in the Supreme Court the triple talaq mode of divorce, 'nikah halala' and the practice of polygamy among Muslims and favoured a relook on grounds like gender equality and secularism.

In Uttar Pradesh, All India Muslim Personal law board has reiterated that there will be no change in triple talaq sytem and issued new guidelines regarding the practice of the custom. Board also cleared that it will only accept the decision of apex court on Babri Maszid- Ram Mandir dispute and refused to go for out of court solution regarding the issue.<br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports, after two days long discussions on various issues related to muslim community ALL INDIA MUSLIM PERSONAL LAW BOARD said in a press conference here in Lucknow, that board has issued guide lines about practice of triple talaq system and will ask the community to boycott those who exercise this custom without any justified reason. Board said that an awareness campaign will be launched regarding triple talaq system with the help of religious leaders. Board has decided to launch a helpline number for counseling and support of the ladies who bore the brunt of this practice. Board also said that they will try to motivate people from the community to give their daughters their share in ancestral property instead of giving dowry or gifts in marriage.
