There has been no breakthrough yet in Odisha on the release of ruling BJD MLA Jhina Hikaka, abducted by the Maoists. Complications have come up in the release process with the Andhra-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee of CPI (Maoist), holding the legislator, demanding withdrawal of all the cases against 30 prisoners including dreaded Maoist Cheda Bhusanam alias Ghasi.Advocate of CPI (Maoist) and Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangh, Nihar Ranjan Patnaik, has said he has been asked not to file any bail applications on behalf of the 30 prisoners belonging to both the organisations. Patnaik, who is also president of the Koraput District Bar Association, said all the cases against Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangha activists and Maoists in Koraput sub-division should be transferred to the fast-track court for their speedy disposal.Even as the Odisha Government has announced that bail applications are being organised for 15 activists of Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangha and eight Maoists for the release of the abducted MLA, Nihar Ranjan Patnaik said he has not received any communication.Meanwhile, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, who visited Koraput district on Friday, once again appealed to the CPI (Maoist) to release the MLA immediately unhurt and in good health. He also held discussion with MLAs of undivided Koraput district and officials on the need to secure Hikaka’s release. Naveen also met the family members of Hikaka at his house in Laxmipur who are in a state of anxiety since the abduction of the first-time MLA since 24th of lastmonth.Odisha Home Secretary Upendra Nath Behera has said direct negotiations would have facilitated a solution to the issue. He, however, said no back-channel contact with the abductors has been established so far.
