No ban on release of new LPG connections: Petro Ministry

The Petroleum Ministry has clarified that there is no ban on release of new LPG connections. The clarification has come in the wake of a media report saying that state-run oil marketing companies are imposing an indefinite countrywide ban on issuing fresh cooking gas connections following government's decision to cap the supply of subsidized LPG cylinders. A Petroleum Ministry release says that to ensure that subsidized domestic cylinders are available to genuine customers, new connection requests will be accepted by all LPG distributors and the connections will be released on completion of know your customer formalities and de-duplication of the applicant across the three oil companies to ensure that multiple connections are not released.
