Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi and sought an immediate financial assistance of over Rs 5,000 crore from the Centre to tackle the drought situation in his state. After the meeting, Kumar told reporters that the Prime Minister has assured him that a Central team would visit the state to assess the situation. He said that immediate financial assistance from the Centre was required to meet the situation as the state has negative balance in calamity relief fund. Twenty eight districts in the State have been declared as famine-hit.
