Indian Overseas Affairs Minister Vyalar Ravi today said, the Nitaqat programme in Saudi Arabia is not expected to have a serious impact on Indians working in that country. Speaking exclusively to All India Radio this morning, Mr. Ravi said, he however is yet to get an exact assessment report on the number of Indians likely to be affected by it. The Indian embassy is extending all possible assistance to Indians to legalize their local travel and residency documents. Mr. Ravi asked people without proper documents to approach the Indian embassy for assistance.He also said, no discussions were held so far for further extension of the grace period on Nitaqat granted by the Saudi Arabian government.Our correspondent reports, the Nitaqat programme makes it mandatory for local companies to hire a Saudi national for every 10 migrant workers. The Saudi government had also given a three month grace period which expires in July, for migrants to regularise their travel, employment and residency documents.
