Nitahri case: SC extends stay on Surinder Koli's execution till October 29

The Supreme Court today extended its stay on execution of death sentence of Nithari rapist and serial killer Surinder Koli till October 29.

Koli has been convicted for killing children in a house in Nithari village in Noida in 2006. On the wee hours of Monday, a bench comprising Justices H L Dattu and A R Dave had stayed his execution for one week.

Koli was to be hanged that morning in Meerut jail, where he has been kept in a high-security barrack.

A team of lawyers sought stay of execution of the capital punishment of Koli, referring to the September 2 verdict of the apex court in which it had held that the review plea of condemned prisoners must be given an open court hearing.
