The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Trichy has started an MA programme in English Literature, as a first step in removing barriers between arts, sciences and Technology, in line with the recently announced National Education&nbsp;Policy (NEP).<br />''&nbsp;<br />''The NIT is also taking serious steps to achieve the status of being "Locally Relevant and Globally competitive" as envisaged by the Prime Minister in his Man Ki Baat address.<br />''&nbsp;<br />''Programmes are being charted out with the aim of utilising technology development for the benefit of the local communities.<br />''&nbsp;<br />''NIT Director Dr Mini Shaji Thomas said that the Institute has also plans to start an&nbsp;<br />''online programme which will increase the number of students in a big way, in&nbsp;<br />''alignment with NEP 2020.<br />''&nbsp;<br />''She also pointed out that NIT&nbsp;Tiruchirappalli's incorporation of the Economically Weaker Section&nbsp;(EWS) quota from the year 2019 onwards for undergraduate and PhD&nbsp;<br />''programme in tune with the ethos and rationale of NEP 2020.<br />''&nbsp;<br />''Dr Mini Shaji also revealed that NIT is embarking on a programme to nurture and increase the teaching skills of its faculty.<br />''&nbsp;<br />''Accordingly, fresh Ph.D. entrants, irrespective of discipline, will be required&nbsp;to take credit-based courses in teaching skills, pedagogy and writing&nbsp;skills&nbsp;<span style="color: #222222;">related to their topic of research.</span><br />
