Indian and Sri Lanka have reviewed the bilateral relations including relief and rehabilitation of the nearly three lakh displaced Tamil civilians. Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao had a breakfast meeting with the Sri Lankan Minister of External Affairs G.L.Peiris in Colombo, where issues of mutual interest were also discussed. Later in the day, she held meetings with delegations of other political parties. Last evening, Ms Rao called on the Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa and apprised him of her visit to the Northern and Eastern provinces and the assistance projects being undertaken by India for the benefit of the Internally Displaced Persons. President Rajapaksa welcomed India’s assistance. During the last two days she traveled extensively to the war ravaged Northern Province to have a first hand assessment of the resettlement process of the Internally Dispalced civilians. She also visited Trincomalee in the Eastern Province. The Indian Foreign secretary is on a three day visit to the island nation to get an overview of the progress of resettlement of war-displaced Tamil people. Ms Rao is scheduled to depart for India this afternoon.
