Opposition members today staged a walkout in the Lok Sabha over the issue of derogatory remarks of Minister of State for Food Processing, Niranjan Jyoti.
As soon as the House reassembled after the first adjournment, members belonging to Congress, Samajwadi Party, Trinamool Congress and Aam Aadmi party raised their demand of resignation of concerned Minister and trooped into the well. Amidst the din, the Speaker Sumitra Mahajan conducted the question hour.
Intervening into the matter, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu said that the issue has already been addressed as the Minister has tendered the apology for her remarks. Expressing dissatisfaction, opposition members staged a walk out.
The Rajya Sabha was adjourned till 2:30 PM over the issue. As the House met for the day, Naresh Agarwal of the SP raised the issue and suggested that the House adopt a resolution for the minister’s removal. He was supported by Congress members.
When Chairman Mohammed Hamid Ansari's repeated appeals for calm went unheeded, he adjourned the House till 2:30 PM. Earlier, the House witnessed repeated adjournments on the issue.
