Nine prisoners, including 7 convicts escape from Meerut jail

In Uttar Pradesh nine prisoners, including seven convicts have escaped from Meerut district jail. Our Lucknow correspondent reports of them 7 are from Meerut while 2 are from Muzaffarnagar district. The state government has suspended 15 jail personnel, including senior superintendent deputy jailer, two jail wardens and 11 prison guards in this connection. As per reports available prisoners escaped from Chaudhary Charan Singh district jail by scaling prison wall with the help of a rain water pipe during wee hours this morning. Manhunt has begun to nab them. Senior jail and administrative officials have conducted thorough search in the jail and several prisoners jailed in the concerned barrack are being interrogated.Senior officials, including Deputy Inspector General of Police and Divisional Commissioner, have reached the jail and a hunt has been launched to nab the prisoners, they said.Meanwhile, District Magistrate has initiated a magisterial inquiry into the incident.
