Nine-member team visits Puducherry to assess damages caused by storm

A nine member central team headed by Mr. Lokesh Jha, Joint Secretary in the Home Ministry which is on a visit to assess the damages caused by the cyclonic storm Thane held discussions today with top officials of Puducherry. The storm left a trail of death and destruction and the territorial administration has put the losses at around 2500 crores rupees.Chief Secretary Mrs. Sathyavathy and secretaries of various departments gave an account of the damages through a power point presentation.The central team later visited the affected areas including Manalmedu, Bharathi park, Indira Gandhi stadium, Botanical garden, Karvadi kuppam, Porayur, and interacted with people. The inter-ministerial team has representatives from departments of agriculture, Drinking water, Health, Power, Road Transport and Highways, Rural development and National Disaster Management Authority.The central team will visit cuddalore district in neighbouring Tamil nadu tommorrow and assess the damages.
