Nine Indian Boxers advanced to the Asian Youth Boxing Championship semifinals in Tehran. Venkat Giddi Nagarjun edged past Afshin Albandi 2-1 in the 57kg category. Harpal Singh got the better of China's Jhamin Wu 7-2 in 64kg before Sumit Sangwan 75kg outpunched Uzbek Hasanov Mirzobek 8-0. Earlier, Devendro Singh 48kg, Srinivas Surbetti 51kg, and Vikas Kishan in 60kg category won their quarterfinal bouts on yesterday. Naveen Kumar had booked a semifinal berth after winning his bout on the opening day of the competition in 81kg. Manoj Kumar and Rajat Kaliraman in 91kg category got byes and moved directly into semifinals. All the semifinals are scheduled to be held tomorrow. Junior World Championship bronze medallist Shiva Thapa's loss was the lone disappointment as he lost to local favourite Ehsan Sepahvand 0-6. The authorities have already made it clear that Ms Suu Kyi will not be allowed to take part in the polls.
