In West Bengal, nine expenditure observers have arrived in North Bengal for first phase assembly election in the state. The first phase poll will take place in 54 seats covering six North Bengal districts on 18th of next month. The State Chief Electoral Officer, Mr.Sunil Gupta told our Kolkata correspondent that 28 General Observers and one police observer will be deployed for first phase poll to monitor electioneering. Mr.Gupta informed that security measures have been beefed up along inter state border areas in North Bengal to prevent untoward incident during the polling. Our Kolkata correspondent report that campaigning for the poll is gradually picking up in the state. The Trinamool Congress Chief Ms.Mamata Banerjee took part in a road show at Behala area in South Kolkata for her party's nominee. On the otherhand the CPIM State Secretary Mr.Biman Basu took part in a pad yatra at Tollygunj in the Southern part of the city. Most of the candidates were busy in door to door campaign today.
