Nine die of gastroenteritis, over two dozen admitted in Punjab hospital

In Punjab, nine persons have died of gastroenteritis in the last four days and over two dozen are admitted in Batala civil hospital in Gurdaspur district. Out of total deaths, six of them died since yesterday. All of them belonged to Gandhi Camp locality of Batala. Civil Surgeon, Gurdaspur, Dr.Vinod Beri while confirming the deaths to AIR Correspondent said that team of doctors had been stationed at the camp area for round the clock medical aid to the residents. He said 57 persons with gastro problem came to the hospital out of which 31 had been admitted and others were sent back after first aid. Gurdaspur Deputy Commissioner, Abhinav Trikha visited the camp area and the civil hospital and took stock of the situation. He said the problem occurred due to mixing of sewage water with the drinking water. He informed that precautionary measures have been taken to control the outbreak of gastroenteritis. Water tankers have been stationed at the camp for providing clean drinking water and medicines are being distributed free of cost.
