Nine arrested in Italy for arms trafficking to Iran

In Italy, nine persons have been arrested by the border police on suspicion of trafficking arms to Iran. They were accused of illegally exporting arms and armament systems. The police said some of the arrested are believed to belong to the Iranian secret services. Arms exports to Iran are strictly controlled under a UN embargo. Italy is Iran's biggest trading partner in the European Union but it is among the countries calling for tougher sanctions against Iran over its nuclear programme.
