Niko case against Hasina: Bangladesh S C upholds High court stay order

The Supreme Court of Bangladesh has upheld the High Court's decision to stay the Niko corruption case filed against Prime minister Sheikh Hasina. A five member Appellate Division bench, headed by chief justice MM Ruhul Amin, dismissed the Anticorruption Commission's appeal against the High Courts stay order issued in July last year. The High Court had stayed the proceedings of the corruption case after Sheikh Hasina challenged the legality of the case. The Anticorruption Commission had filed the case against nine people including Prime Minister Hasina for allegedly handing over the Chhatak, Kamta and Feni gas fields to Canadian firm Niko Resources Ltd without tender. The Commission had claimed that the mismanagement of the gas fields during Sheikh Hasina's previous term as Prime minister resulted in a loss nearly 9100 crore rupees
