Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti called up External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid yesterday to discuss Italian marines issue.

Mr. Monti expressed concern over the possibility that two Italian Marines held in India for killing two Indian fishermen could face death penalty despite India's earlier clarification to the contrary.
Italian Deputy Foreign Minister Staffan de Mistura met Mr Khurshid in New Delhi yesterday to discuss developments in the marines case.

Mr. Khurshid briefed Mr. Mistura and updated him of the developments in the case since their meeting last month. NIA has registered a murder case against two Italian Marines.
