NIA raids continue against Hurriyat leaders in J&K in connection with terror funding

Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu will flag off segregated waste collection vehicles from Talkatora Indore Stadium in New Delhi today to launch the segregation campaign in National Capital Region.<br/><br/>Urban local bodies of Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad, Noida and Ghaziabad will be covered in the campaign. On this occasion Residential Welfare Associations, hotels and restaurants who have taken commendable initiatives will also be felicitated. Our Correspondent reports that Mr Naidu will also launch the waste segregation at Indore today. In other States, Governors and Chief Ministers will launch this initiative.<br/><br/>This new initiative to address the problem of solid waste management will be launched in 130 cities where Waste-to-Compost plants are either functional or under construction. Wet waste will be collected in Green bins and dry waste in Blue bins.<br/><br/>Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu is the only city so far to have ensured 100 percent segregation of solid waste at source. In the National Capital Region, about 15 thousand tonnes of municipal solid waste is being generated every day while about 65 million tones of such waste is produced every day in urban areas of the country.<br/><br/>A recent study revealed that improper solid waste management causes 15 diseases including Hepatitis, Cholera and Malaria. Under Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban), 100 per cent door-to-door collection, transportation and processing of solid waste is targeted by October, 2019.

NIA raids continue against Hurriyat leaders in J&K in connection with terror funding

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) today continued its searches in Kashmir in connection with terror funding allegedly from Pakistan for carrying out subversive activities in the Valley. NIA sources in Delhi said searches were conducted at three places in Srinagar and one in Jammu. NIA also raided Hurriyat spokesman Ayaz Akbar's residence in Srinagar.<br/><br/>Yesterday, NIA carried searches at 14 places in Kashmir and eight places in the national capital. Around 1 crore rupees, two laptops and some other electronic gadgets were seized. The raids were conducted in Srinagar at the residences, offices and commercial establishments of a few financiers, hawala operators and office bearers of some of the separatist groups. <br/><br/>The raids follow questioning of three separatists, including Nayeem Khan, who was seen on television during a sting operation purportedly confessing to receiving money from Pakistan-based terror groups.<br/>
