NIA, CID visit Hirakhand train derailment site in Andhra Pradesh

Teams from the National Investigation Agency and Andhra Pradesh State Criminal Investigation Department today visited the Jagdalpur-Bhubaneswar Hirakhand Express accident site to probe, if there was sabotage angle. <br/><br/>Official sources said the team is looking into whether there was a terror angle involved or the accident was due to technical or human error. Officials have not ruled out the involvement of Maoists as the Andhra-Odisha border area is considered a Maoist stronghold. <br/><br/>Odisha Police, however, ruled out involvement of Naxals in the mishap. Odisha DGP K B Singh had said there is no indication of Maoist's hand behind the derailment. <br/><br/>Police sources said two more bodies were recovered from one of the derailed coaches of the ill-fated train today.<br/><br/>The tragedy occurred near Kuneru station, 24 km from Rayagada in Odisha on Saturday night which claimed 41 lives of passengers. The train was on its way to the Odisha capital Bhubaneswar from Jagdalpur in Chhattisgarh.<br/><br/>The Odisha and Andhra Pradesh government have announced compensation of 5 lakh rupees for the families of their respective citizens of the state, who lost lives in the Hirakhand Express accident. <br/><br/>The Odisha government has also declared free treatment of the injured, who are undergoing treatment at various hospital. Immediately after the incident occurred, the Railways had declared 2 lakh rupees compensation to each family of deceased.
