The National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, today issued a notice to Maharashtra government on the report alleging that seven farmers committed suicide in the past 72 hours in the Vidarbha region. Taking a suo moto cognizance of media reports, the Commission has asked the Chief Secretary of the state to submit a report within six weeks in this regard. The NHRC has observed that the media report, if true, is a serious issue of violation of human rights of farmers.
