NHRC to probe child’s death in night shelter fire

The National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, will probe the death of a nine-year-old child in a fire at the women’s night shelter in New Delhi last Saturday.

Taking a suo-motu cognisance on media reports, the Commission has asked its Director General of Investigations to send a team on the spot.

Quoting official sources, AIR correspondent reports, the NHRC has asked the team to submit their report within a week.

The girl, along with 21 women and 16 children were sleeping at the makeshift shelter when the blaze occurred.

The Commission has quoted media reports, which claimed that the shelter was built with highly inflammable material.

The police have also registered a case of negligence.
