The National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, will hold an open hearing on human rights issues at Puri in Odisha on Monday. During the hearing, victims of human rights violations and atrocities belonging to weaker sections of society, can present their experiences and grievances in seeking justice from government agencies. This will be the first public engagement of a team from the Commission, which will visit the state from the 9th to 12th of this month, to discuss with senior officials the outstanding cases pertaining to the state.
AIR Correspondent reports that the hearing is being held as per the recommendations of retired IAS officer K B Saxena who was asked by the Commission to carry out a study on the problems faced by the Scheduled Castes. He recommended organising an open hearing every year to tackle these problems.
