NHRC to carry out random inspection of a juvenile home in Delhi

National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, has said it will carry out random inspection of a juvenile home in Delhi over allegations of drug abuse, frequent brawls and sexual assault involving inmates.

According to an NHRC statement, the Commission has also sought a report from the Delhi Government in connection with an incident on December 17 when the juveniles went on a rampage in Seva Kutir Juvenile Home in Mukherjee Nagar area attacking each other with blades and breaking and burning furniture.

The Commission has asked its Director General (Investigation) to constitute a team for random inspection of the Home and submit a report. It has issued a notice to the Secretary, Department of Social Welfare, and Government of NCT of Delhi, calling for a report within four weeks on the December 17 incident.
