National Human Rights Commission, NHRC has sent notices to Chief Secretary, Delhi government and Railway Board chairman over media reports alleging that several people have been rendered homeless after demolition at two places in Delhi. NHRC has taken suo motu cognizance of media reports on demolition of slum dwellings at Shakurbasti area and Belagaon area. <br/><br/>The Commission has sought reply within two weeks. It observed that the news reports, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of the right to life, right to shelter and right to dignity of people. <br/><br/>According to media reports, nearly 500 people were rendered homeless following the demolition drive by Railway authorities in Shakurbasti area. The Commission has also decided to send a team of its officers to visit both places of demolition and conduct an on-the-spot enquiry.
