The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has received 9.5 lakh complaints of violation of human rights, maximum being against the police, from all over the country during last 16 years. Speaking to reporters at Hoshiarpur in Punjab, Acting Chairperson of the NHRC Justice G P Mathur said that, the maximum number of human rights violation complaints received by the Commission were from Uttar Pradesh, especially adjoining area of Delhi. He said that by allowing to transfer the complaints to the respective states, Commission had played a major role to clear the pending complaints and now the pending complaints with the Commission are around 20,000.<br/><br/>Earlier, addressing a workshop Justice Mathur said that Commission had received 13,500 complaints from Punjab including 320 from Hoshiarpur district. Maximum number of complaints was from Amritsar and Ludhiana districts. 52 complaints were received from Hoshiarpur district yesterday and were disposed of.<br/><br/>
