The National Human Rights Commission has issued notices to the Governments of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu to file reports on the recent violence related to the Cauvery row. <br/><br/>Taking suo motu cognizance of reports of large scale violence in Bengaluru and other parts in protest against the the Supreme Court's direction for releasing Cauvery water, it has asked both the governments to file their reports within four weeks. <br/><br/>The Commission has in a statement said the police and civil authorities woke up to the situation only after the large scale violence against public and private property. The NHRC has sought information on the number of persons injured and the extent of destruction of public and private property during the protests.<br/>.
