The National Human Right Commission has issued notices to Delhi government and the Municipal Corporation with regard to the building collapse in East Delhi which claimed 70 lives. Taking a suo moto cognisance of the tragedy, the NHRC has asked them to inform the Commission on what action is proposed to be taken against the erring public officials who are responsible for the construction of illegal buildings and report back in four weeks time.In letters to the Chief Secretary of National Capital Territory of Delhi and the Commissioner of the MCD , the Commission has also asked them to file a report on the proposed action for the safety of persons living in 38 identified unsafe buildings. They have also been asked to inform the NHRC on the action with regard to medical treatment of the survivors including ex-gratia payment to be paid to the next of kin of the deceased and the injured.
