The National Human Rights Commission NHRC has issued a notice to the state police in Uttar Pradesh over an alleged incident of police, beating a truck driver for refusing to pay bribe in Meerut district.

Issuing notice to the Deputy Director General Police Meerut Range the Commission has directed him for filing his reply with four weeks of time.

Quoting official sources our Allahabad correspondent reports that the victim was tortured at police station in which he lost vision in one eye.

Taking cognizance of media reports on this, the commission has also asked for a status report on the health of the victim.
